New River Path

Hurrah! The New River Path is Open again.  You can now walk along the river on the new non-muddy path.  It will look much better when the grass starts to grow on the banks.  Thames Water will be back in April to sow some more grass and check all is OK.  When the grass has properly covered the banks and is strong enough, TW will take down the fencing. If you are a dog owner who walks this way, please do not let your dog foul on the bank as you cannot get access to clear it up.  It would a great…See More

New River Path update

On Monday February 4th Thames Water will start to put up the new fencing to stop the graffiti lads spraying our listed Tunnel Entrance.  The works should not take more than a week, and then there will be a final inspection along the Path and if everything is OK then it can be open again.  The embankment works contractors will be back in the Spring, when it warms up, to plant some more grass seed on the bank.  The new vertical metal bank makes it impossible for small animals, birds (or people…See More

Yemani from Red Sea

Yemani from Red Sea Ever since the start of the BPCA nearly 20 years ago we have been supported and helped by the brothers who run the Red Sea Supermarket. They open and close the Garden and Gym every day, and always help in so many ways when asked. We are very sad indeed to have to tell people that Yemani, the tall, slim and younger brother, died after a two weeks sickness in UCH on the 23rd. His gentle friendliness and kindness will be much missed. Our deepest sympathy goes to his brothers,…See More

It is that wonderful time of year when apple, plum and pear trees have more fruit than you can eat.  If you have fruit trees in your garden, please do not let it go to waste or just compost it.Pop any surplus fruit in a box on the pavement or the wall outside your house with a note to people to take what they wish.  If you have any clean plastic bags you could pop a few of them in the box also to make it easier for people to take some fruit home.  Lots of blackberries for the picking, and it is…See More

New River Path closure - Information Drop-In this Friday

The New River Path will be closed between Myddleton and Whittington for over 3 months for embankment repairs - starting very soon.On Friday 13th there will be a bus parked at the Whittington end where you can talk to the engineers and learn about all that is planned.  You can also get tea or coffee and biscuits.  10 to 5.00.They have to do the works in the summer so it does not disturb hibernating bats in the tunnel! But the man in charge told me that they will be happy to let people in to pick…See More

10 years ago I wrote a short piece for some friends about daffodils and Bounds Green. I was deleting a load of old files and found it.  As it is daffodil time again, and there are even more people here escaping wars 'back home' , I am 'sharing' it wider.
