Bowes and Bounds Connected

A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green

Hi. I and my family are new to the area ( we live off Bowes Rd) & need to register with a GP locally. Can anyone recommend a good family GP/Health Centre? I know there is one on the corner of Hardwicke Rd but don't know if it's any good?  Any suggestions gratefully received! From Tracy

Hello Tracy ... and Welcome!

The NHS "Choices" website lists all registered GPs. Following this link should show the 15 surgeries within one mile of Bowes Park.

The website allows a public rating system - along the lines of an e-bay or Amazon review - and looking at the few comments it seems people have mostly posted negative (or weird!) comments about specific incidents, so I'm not sure how useful it is in helping you make a choice.

Personally I have been very satisfied with the services of the Bounds Green Group practice in Gordon Road near Bounds Green Tube. You don't always get an appointment with "your" nominated  GP but as a group practice there is usually an appointment fairly quickly. On the rare occasion we have needed the services of a doctor they have been very good - particularly when our two daughters were younger.

Good Luck

We (me my husband and 18 month old son) recently registered with the same practice as Richard (Bounds Green Group Practice, Gordon Rd) and are so far v happy with the service. Its a teaching practice linked to UCLH so maybe a bit more engaged and proactive than some, in my personal opinion!

Thanks to both Richard and Mary-Louise for your replies.  Both have been helpful, particularly as we have two children.
I too am with the Bounds Green Group Practice on Gordon Road and have always been very happy with them.

Bounds Green Group Practice gets my vote too - I've been with them since moving to the area in 1997 and have found the various doctors I have seen to be sympathetic, helpful and knowledgeable. Dr Sherman in particular is a really good GP and a very nice chap!
Any recommendations for surgeries local to Arcadian Gardens (off Green Lanes)? I've had a good look at the NHS site but am a little sceptical as I suspect that sometimes people only really bother to rate things when they have had a bad experience! Positive tales for surgeries in this area are therefore welcomed! (I will call the BG practice praised above but suspect that I might be a little beyond catchment area so need a back-up plan...)

Hi, & welcome to the nighbourhood!

I've just had a quick skim through the postings below & just want to add a vote for the the Gordon Rd posse.  Like Richard, I'm not fussy about who I see but I've never had any problem with any doctor there, I'm very happy with this Group.

I think Richard and dawnage are right about the negative comments; I work for the NHS and know how quick people are to voice complaints (and rightly so) but don't bother to comment when something works well, as that's really what should be expected.  It's actually quite nice to see so many people responding positively.

All the best
