A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green

For St. Valentines Day how about sharing with your neighbours the things you love about living in Bounds Green or Bowes Park?
What are your local passions? Is it your neighbours? Our green spaces or local shops? Is it the transport links to central London ... even the North Circular? ... What do you love about our area?

Continuing the food theme - the restuarants and take-aways Turkish food, Greek food ... I love Vrisaki on Myddleton Road as well as the Chinese on Whittington, chippy, curries - and lots of home delivery stuff too.. Good(ish) pubs - I can nip nto the Occasional Half and always find someone to chat to about the football on the telly, or go down the Ranelagh or up to the Live Room for live music. Two multi-screen cinemas in Wood Green...and all the shops I ever need, (even for some one who hates shopping !!!) are in Wood Green.
In the summer Broomfield Park is just up the road - and Finsbury Park is a couple of stops on the tube - transport is generally pretty good
All in all its a pretty cool place to be!

A wander round Sunshine Garden Centre makes me feel happy, even if I don't need to buy anything. The staff there are incredibly friendly and helpful.
Also, views of Ally Pally make me smile, as does a walk up there to get away from it all.
Permalink Reply by Jo Strange on February 14, 2012 at 10:52 I love that Whittington Road is home to a secret parking lot full of ice cream vans! It doesn't happen often but it's always a treat to see a traffic jam of vans when they all set out for the day at the same time. :) It's a shame that D'Auria Bros have got themselves a new sign, though - I loved the old hand-painted one.

Permalink Reply by Jo Strange on February 14, 2012 at 11:24 Ah, that's the one - thanks, Richard! Haha - when I clicked the pic to enlarge it I see that it's actually from my other half's Flickr gallery. Thanks for linking to it, I'd forgotten he'd taken a pic of it!
I just love the choice of parks in our area at walking distance: Albert Road, Arnos Park, Broomfield Park, Ally Pally, etc ... and not much further you have Highgate, Hampstead or Trent Park.
Bowes Primary School is just great for kids and parents alike.
Transport is really good with both an tube and overground train station. For me it's an advantage to be only a few stops away from the Emirates Stadium!
I love that you have so many fruit & veg shops near the tube station.
etc ...
Permalink Reply by Maria Huybens on February 16, 2012 at 10:17 In addition to all of the above, I love the New River Path - OK, parts of it are a bit iffy, but it's so nice to be able to walk from Myddleton Road to Palmers Green and avoid the traffic, and the wildflowers are lovely in the summer.
I love the odd and quirky things you see around here - the old cattle trough on the corner of Finsbury & Nightingale Road, a horse spotted on the green near Ally Pally station, and the weird, semi derelict George Moore's Menswear on Myddleton Road with its mouldy stock in the window at 1980's prices. A bit like something out of the League of Gentlemen!
