Bowes and Bounds Connected

A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green

Does anyone know what the situation is on this? As far as I can work out, the Samaritans are through to stage 3 of their application for National Lottery funding of £500,000 but this hasn't been granted yet. It also seems they have to raise additional funds – does anyone know how much? There's a quiz night at the pub next to Tesco's on Monday night, as a fundraiser, but I can't see that that will get them very far.

North London Samaritans - Shaftesbury Hall

"Big Lottery funding helps secure our future

North London Samaritans has been given a grant of £545,0000 to rebuild Shaftesbury Hall to provide a centre for Samaritans’ volunteers and fund an amazing new public facility for local people.

The charity now needs to look to local businesses, trusts and individuals to raise £110,000 in the next 6 months to complete the project. If all goes to plan, NLS aim to start building work in the autumn of 2017 and complete it by mid-2018. ...

This grant will ultimately benefit around 360 people per week by working with a large number of local organisations. Over 30 local people and groups have already expressed a keen interest in using the space

Local business, community groups and others interested in fundraising or sponsorship opportunities for the North London Samaritans Shaftesbury Hall appeal should contact North London Samaritans on 020 8368 6789or by emailing fundraising@northlondonsamaritans.org.uk

Once the Hall is redeveloped we will have a plaque on this inside which will list the names of individuals and organisations who have donated or raised over £500. If you are interested in this, please let us know."

Thank you Richard, that's very helpful. Apart from continuing the Samaritans' very valuable work, developing the Hall as a local resource can only be good for the local community, giving it a focus and raising the level of community activity.

Good news for the Tabernacle and the Samaritans. It occupies a prominent site by the station so for many it will be one of the first things they see of our area. I hope the redevelopment will be a big improvement.

Hi everyone

I've tracked down the quiz night in support of the above. It's at the Springfield next to Tesco's on Bounds Green Road, on Monday 27th at 7pm. It would be great if we could raise some more money for them that way.
