Event Description

To mark the centenary of the First World War, Alexandra Palace launched their ‘War on the Home Front’ exhibition, a pop up temporary exhibition that allows visitors the rare chance to explore the history of Alexandra Palace’s role 100 years ago. Following widespread interest and over 2700 visitors, the exhibition is undergoing a redisplay, introducing new and exciting objects to tell the story of the Palace during the First World War. Step back in time between June and September 2015 to experience the revamped exhibition at Alexandra Palace.

Between 1914 & 1918 Alexandra Palace was first home to thousands of Belgians fleeing the German invasion before becoming an internment camp for non- naturalised German, Austrian and Hungarian men who were considered a danger to the UK’s war effort.  The exhibition uncovers the personal stories and experiences of those imprisoned at the camp and the dramatic change in local attitudes to how the Palace was being used.

This timed ticketed event is open Thursday mornings, Friday afternoons and the first Saturday of every month until Friday 25th September 2015.

Free tickets can be booked online at: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/war-on-the-home-front-exhibition-tickets-14162956785
